February 2013 Visiting Teaching Handout

January 2013 Visiting Teaching Handout

I know. I know. I'm a little late in the game. I actually made this a week ago, but failed to post it.

All of the other handouts that I have found for this month have snowflakes, Eskimos, and winter-y designs. While these are all extremely creative, down here in these parts we don't have white Christmases. We don't have snow, snowflakes, snowmen, or even really big coats.

Sooooo, I wanted to make a handout to reflect our neck of the woods and since it's been raining so daggum much and I think they're absolutely adorable-- I added frogs. I did; however, post a non-frogger version too (just in case there are some aversions to the hopping little creatures).

These are the very first I've designed with the purpose, intent, and follow-thru to post for the world and I would appreciate any comments or criticism, as long as it's constructive (I do have feelings, ya know).

Rattlesnake Bites Recipe

 

          My sister gave me this recipe and I have finally decided to try it. I have no earthly idea why I waited so long to make these. Maybe it was because subconsciously I knew how difficult it would be to limit my intake of these lumpy looking blobs. I do have to admit that after taste testing the innards of these "bites" before they were stuffed inside the dough, I was unsure how these would actually turn out. I thought that the crescent rolls might demean the flavor of the beef mixture. 

 

I was so wrong! After baking, it's as though this heavenly mixture is contained in a fluffy envelope.

A shortened version of this description would simply say: You HAVE to try these!

Oh, my munchkin also wanted to show you how much she liked these, but I withheld that photo. Picture this: she held up her remaining bite, smiled, and when I went to take the picture, she stretched her mouth open as widely as possible. It was very interesting because it was almost as though she had the jaw of a snake. Like the one below from visualphotos.com.

Here are the changes I made to this recipe: I doubled it, used beef in place of chicken, added 1 can of diced green chilies and 1 can of diced jalapeños, and used 3 cans of crescent rolls.

Tribute to Anna Marie Catoir

As requested, I tried to keep my comments about Anna Marie in the present tense.

I met Anna Marie Catoir and her mother in the waiting room of a local hospital. Right away I noticed Anna Marie is just like her mother, Mary Catoir. She has innate characteristics of selflessness and love. She also has an amazingly peaceful aura. I hope that you will take the time to learn about Anna Marie and read her book, "Mrs. Baker's Ghost".

DIY "Mistletoe"

Technology Punch Cards

Simply Kierste has an awesome punch card to keep your kids technology use limited. She says that each of her children get one card per week.

I would definitely use this to encourage my kids to play outside. For example, every half hour or every hour they play outside they earn the punch circle to be initialed/colored/stamped signifying they earned the allotted technology time and then when they use up those minutes, the circles get punched.
